Nikki Gour was born and raised in the beautiful town of Peace River Alberta. Throughout her life she has always had an interest in the arts. In 1991 she attended a summer scapes arts program in Red Deer which stimulated her aspirations to become an artist.
After graduating from high school Nikki moved to Calgary and in 2001 she enrolled in the Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD). While in College, Nikki received a Jason Lang scholarship, won the Best Overall Design Award for the charity Garden Party and had the opportunity to create commissioned art piece for the Calgary science Center.
Nikki completed her Bachelors Degree of Fine Arts, with a major in sculpture in 2006. After graduation, she spent two years building an artist studio and designing a website to exhibit her work. In October 2008, Nikki become a full time Artist, creating commissioned works for businesses and private collectors throughout Alberta.
Eclectic in her choice of subject matter, she admires the simplicity of form and dynamic expressive qualities she includes in her work. The creation of her work is based on a unique personal interaction with found objects combined with deep personal reflections on how she views the world through her own life experiences, surroundings, thoughts, feelings, emotions and intuitiveness.
Recently Nikki has exhibited her work in several Solo and Group exhibits throughout Calgary and Northern Alberta. In addition to exhibiting her work, Nikki has also spent some time instructing several workshops, presentations and demonstrations, with the Art Works Visual Art Conference, Alberta’s Teachers Convention Association 2008 and the Art Walk Program in Calgary. She is also a regular visiting artist for the Lindsay Thurber High school in Red Deer teaching workshops and giving presentations of her art practice.
Gour continues to build her career by expressing ideas and creativity to the world through her exhibits and teachings.
